The regulatory registry check searches five specialized federal and provincial registries in parallel. Results appear even when a business isn’t incorporated — a charity or MSB may be registered under a different legal name than what appears in corporate registries.

What’s covered

When regulatoryRegistry is omitted, it follows your account’s configured search settings. Pass it explicitly to override that for a single search — for example, to disable it when you only need corporate registry results:
Each registry returns a flat array. Empty arrays indicate no matches — not an error.

Registered Charities

Searches the CRA’s list of registered charities and other qualified donees. Useful for: verifying charitable status before processing donations or grants, confirming a non-profit’s registration number.
The registrationNumber for charities follows the CRA Business Number format: 9-digit BN + RR + 4-digit account (e.g. 123456789RR0001).

Money Services Businesses

Searches FINTRAC’s public registry of registered Money Services Businesses. MSBs are legally required to register with FINTRAC if they deal in foreign exchange, money transfers, virtual currencies, cheque cashing, or prepaid payment products. Useful for: KYB/AML compliance checks before onboarding a financial services company, verifying a crypto exchange or remittance provider’s registration status.
MSB registration numbers are prefixed with M followed by 8 digits. Status values include Active and Expired.
MSBs often operate under trade names that differ from their legal name. Check alternateNames when the legal name match score is low — the same entity may be registered under a different name.

Cannabis Retail — AGCO (Ontario)

Searches the AGCO’s registry of licensed cannabis retail stores in Ontario. Useful for: verifying a cannabis retailer holds a valid Ontario licence before entering a commercial relationship or lease agreement.

Cannabis Production — Health Canada

Searches Health Canada’s list of licensed cannabis producers, processors, researchers, and distributors under the Cannabis Act. Useful for: verifying a cannabis producer or processor holds a valid federal licence for commercial transactions, investment due diligence.

Health Service Providers — Ontario MOH

Searches the Ontario Ministry of Health’s registry of regulated health service provider locations, including pharmacies, laboratories, and other licensed health facilities. Useful for: verifying a healthcare business holds a valid Ontario MOH licence, due diligence on health sector suppliers or partners.

Common fields across all registries

A business may appear in multiple registries. An MSB that is also a registered charity will show results in both fintracMsb and craCharities.
